A day at the La Soufrière volcano

Discover the Guadeloupe National Park and its natural treasures

The Islands of Guadeloupe have a great wealth of protected natural sites. In addition to the beautiful white sandy beaches, the archipelago is home to an ecosystem classified by UNESCO with tropical landscapes and diverse biodiversity.

The Guadeloupe National Park will invite you to various natural environments: the tropical forest, the mangrove and the coastline. The choice of excursions will be even wider! The most essential, and the one that most stands out, is, in my opinion, the hike to La Soufrière.

La Soufrière, an exceptional volcano

Also known as “the Old Lady”, the La Soufrière volcano is the highest point in the Lesser Antilles. It is the most prestigious natural site in the archipelago and the Guadeloupe National Park! The summit and the view are deserved! The ascent from the Yellow Baths in Saint-Claude is accessible to all, but it is imperative to start early to hope for a magnificent view at the top. You should plan on walking about 5 hours in the tropical forest, and on the hillside, on a marked trail that is very popular with hikers, but also families.

Throughout the ascent, you will have a 360° view of the archipelago of the islands of Guadeloupe: the Carbet Falls, the sulfur fumaroles, the Saintes archipelago... the show is memorable! Although still active, the volcano is currently in eruptive rest. From the top of La Soufrière, you can admire the most beautiful landscape of the islands of Guadeloupe with a view of Basse-Terre, Grande-Terre, Les Saintes, Marie-Galante, La Désirade, La Désirade, La Dominique and Montserrat on a clear day.

Count on a day to properly discover La Soufrière, so don't wait any longer and put on your sneakers!
